Best Bark Collars for Your Shih-Tzu
Innotek Automatic No-Bark Collar (Rechargeable)
Our neighbor finally began to complain about our shih-tzus' barking, prompting us to look for the best bark collars on the Internet. Momo and Chuy do not bark that much, at least compared to some dogs I know. Sure, they yap a little, but it's nothing out of the ordinary for two young puppies.
Still, we didn't want to risk having our neighbors file a complaint so we began to do some research on the best bark collars for shih-tzus on the market. We ultimately decided on the Innotek Automatic No-Bark Rechargeable Collar. There's some more detailed information below, but we chose this particular one because:
- The Innotek Automatic No-Bark Collar automatically sets its sensitivity to your shih-tzu's barking level. In other words, it learns how your shih-tzu barks and adjusts the stimulation needed to prevent them from barking.
- The stimulation used is not at all painful to your shih-tzu and only escalates if your shih-tzu does not stop barking immediately. It's humane, unlike what most people mistakenly think.
- The Innotek Automatic No-Bark Collar has a rechargeable battery, meaning you don't have to constantly buy new (and often expensive) batteries. The rechargeable feature is absolutely convenient.
There were others we were considering (see the carousel selection below), but we opted for the Innotek (detailed description and link to buy further below). We'll write a more extensive review of the product in a subsequent post, but we would encourage you to get this one as it works really well for shih-tzus.

Hi, so would you say that this product's battery doesn't die out too quickly? Do they get used to it after a while and just keep barking? I've heard of some dogs who just keep on barking until the max. shock.. i'm alittle scared of that happening.

Hi Esther
When we used it, the battery never really died out, but that was largely because our pups never ended up barking a lot because... frankly... the product worked. What we found was the pups would try to bark, get freaked out when they barked too loud, and they would become scared of barking after that. We would take off the collar and whenever they started to act up again, we'd take out the collar and they would get the message right away.
Couple months later, we rarely used the collar and to this day we no longer need to use it. They'll occasionally bark, but very rarely ... probably once a month indoors at home. Of course, outdoors, especially when they see other dogs, they'll yap, but even so they've learned to not yap often or loud.
I think the lesson here is if you train them early on - whether you use the bark collar or not - you'll be much better off later. But you need to get them when they're young. I also believe you need to make them associate incessant barking with something negative; otherwise, they will continue to bark.
